Latch Hook Rugs

Hi
I completed my sixth rug today. This means that I now have enough squares to put them together to make one rug for my bedroom. I laid them all in a line under the window while I was waiting to complete this one and have become so use to seeing them there that I might just leave them like that for a while.

Latch Hook Rugs

Hi
I have completed the horse kit.

I think this this is the best looking one so far. The wool is very soft and lovely to touch.
I am going to choose another animal one for the final square.

Latch Hook Rugs

Hi
I have completed my dog rug. I am very pleased with this one.

I have been back to Hobbycraft and found another animal one. This time it is a horse.

It contains the wool or yarn,

the canvas,

and the instructions.

This kit also contains the latch hook itself although not all kits do. This only really matters when you are buying one for the first time or need a special size.
I'll let you see how it turns out.

Latch Hook Rugs

Hi
I've opened my next rug kit. I decided to have the dog one. As I suspected there were a lot of very close shades. This made it difficult to tell which was which at a glance. I decided to lay out one of each colour and name them for easy reference.

I had to do a bit of guess work as to which colour is called 'spice' so I hope I got it right. I think so from the picture.

I have bought a set of small boxes and separated the colours into these. I have added their code sign into the box. This has made finding the right colour quickly much easier.

I have completed a few lines and I must admit that this kit takes a bit more concentration than the previous ones I have done, but I think it will be worth the extra effort.

LatchHook Rugs

Hi
I tried another twelve inch square rug kit. This is a Fish kit from Caron International, natura like the Ladybird and the Carousel I did previously. I do enjoy doing these kits. I think it's something to do with the picture gradually emerging.

The fish rug.

I reckon six rugs sewn together will be a good size; so three more to go!
When I was last in HobbyCraft I spotted a puppy one. This looks as though it uses a greater colour range so I will have to find some individual containers for the wool. I will let you see how I get on.

Latch Hook Rugs

Hi

A couple of months ago I fancied trying my hand at rug making. Latch Hook rugs seemed the way to go so I purchased a small 12 inch kit featuring a ladybird. After several attempts and internet research I finally managed to work out how to use the hook. Following the pictures sounded much more straight forward than it it really was!

After several hours I finished my first tiny rug. I felt a real sense of achievement.

Here is said rug.

Quite pretty I think you'll agree, but what on earth do you do with a twelve inch rug?

After giving the matter careful thought I came up with the idea of a patchwork rug. The next day I chose a carousel horse design kit. I checked the box to make sure it was a twelve inch one. On opening the kit I counted the same forty squares as before and set about completing the second square of my patchwork rug to be.

Here is the result.

Great! Now I could sew the two squares together. If any of you make rugs you will probably guess what I found.

They were different sizes!

I rechecked the boxes and found they only claimed to be approximately twelve inches.

Sighing, I resiegned myself to leaving them as stepping stones across my bedroom carpet.
I haven't given up yet and will let you know how my new rug is progressing next time.
